Editorial policy

Separation of editorial types

News reports events and is dated. Analysis interprets or teaches and is labelled as opinion-bearing. Reviews assess a named provider and must state what was tested and when. A record is never presented as one type while doing the work of another.

Claims we do not make

• No promise or implication of profit, income or guaranteed returns.
• No promise of safety, security or protection from loss.
• No price targets or forecasts presented as expectation rather than attributed opinion.
• No recommendation to buy, sell or hold any asset, product or service.
• No invented credentials, licences, affiliations, readership figures or endorsements.

Balance

Records that criticise a named party must represent that party's position where it is available, and note where it was sought but not obtained. Records that describe an opportunity must describe the corresponding risk with equal prominence.

Sources and evidence

Claims are attributed. Primary sources are preferred and linked. Outbound links are marked and carry no endorsement. Where a source is anonymous, the reason is stated.

Commercial disclosure

Any affiliate, sponsorship or commercial relationship affecting a record must be disclosed on that record. Where the commercial context of a legacy record is unknown, the page says so instead of implying independence.

Corrections and updates

Material errors are corrected openly and dated rather than silently edited. Substantive updates are noted on the record. See corrections and the verification methodology.
