Accessibility
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across this site, and to fix barriers quickly when they are reported.
What we do
- Semantic landmarks and a skip link on every page, with one H1 per page.
- Full keyboard operation with a visible focus indicator that is never suppressed.
- Body and interface text tested for AA contrast against its background.
- Interactive targets sized to at least 44 by 44 CSS pixels.
- Text that reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling on small screens.
- Animation and smooth scrolling disabled when the system requests reduced motion.
- Decorative images marked as decorative; meaningful images given descriptive text.
Known limitations
Archived records were written in another publishing system. Some legacy images lack useful descriptions and some imported markup uses shallow heading structure. We label these records as legacy and improve descriptions as records are re-verified rather than inventing descriptions for images we cannot interpret.
